On first glance Alabama Shakes may look like your average unassuming rock quartet, but from first note — specifically, the first note from singer Brittany Howard – they take control. The band (from Athens, Alabama, naturally) bring rock ‘n’ roll back to its R&B roots, combining Howard’s powerful vocals with a gritty, punk-rock spirit.
